Flat Rock Nadja's Vineyard Riesling 2013
Nadja's vineyard was planted in 2000, a 2 ha parcel just under the top of the Escarpment - Flatrock's coolest site that ripens up to two weeks later than the parcel below the winery. Always whole bunch pressed, fermented with settled and racked juice, all in stainless steel. 2013 was a cool year, really fine for whites in particular, with a long, cool season that ran late into November. This is fragrant and pretty, very aromatic, with plenty of crisp apple and summer fruit, with no shortage of minerality. The palate is lean and tightly wound, sharp, as young Nadja's riesling always is, with high acids hiding 18 grams of sugar and giving this an essentially dry impression. Great length - a lovely pure and crystalline wine with fine ageing potential. Tasted May 2014. Score - 91. (John Szabo, M.S., winealign.com, May 15, 2014)
