Flat Rock Riesling 2014
This is a luscious, off-dry riesling that's not as sweet as the residual sugar (34g/L) might lead you to expect. The acid (9.5g/L, in case you're interested) takes care of much of it, leaving you with very manageable perceived sweetness. And it's not just sweetness, even then, because it's dominated by fruitiness - fruit-sweetness, as I think of it. Luscious was the word that leapt to my mind as I first tasted this, and that describes the almost-opulent fruit here, but the clean acidity is the other important part. It makes you want to go back to the glass (and bottle) again and again, making this an eminent drinkable wine. You can drink this on its own or take it to the table. But I would drink it in the next year or two, just to savour its freshness. Score - 4 1/2 Stars (out of 5). (Rod Phillips, rodphillipsonwine.com, March 19, 2015)
