Quinta dos Roques Vinho Tinto 2009

Deep ruby in colour, the nose features aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, underbrush, plum, cedar, coffee and ground pepper. It's dry, medium full-bodied, smooth-textured and mouth-filling with ripe black fruit flavours and a toasty edge. For all it's smoothness there is an appealing rusticity to this wine's character. Juicy but balanced by lively acidity and youthful, though light tannins; it would make a nice match for roast pork tenderloin, pasta with sausage in tomato sauce or lamb. (VINTAGES panel, Aug. 2012)
