Guigal is a legendary Rhone producer, and this basic Cotes du Rhone begins to explain why, combining lushness and vibrancy. The fruit is very ripe plum with classic pepper, cedar/cigar, oak resin and licorice notes. It's medium weight, very smooth with piquant acidity, fine tannin and warmth on the finish. Really carries nicely, with juiciness and minerality and very good length. A bit lighter than previous years but complexity and balance are excellent. Score - 89.
