My favorite wine of the bunch, the 2009 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle alle Macchie is a grand and towering wine, loaded tight with dark berry, leather, tobacco, polished river stone, grilled herbs and liquid smoke. The bouquet shows a steady and long evolution in the glass. Again, like most wines made with the super tannic Sagrantino grape, this wine needs time to softly unwind and integrate in the cellar. I'd suggesting holding on to this bottle for at least five more years. Drink: 2016-2025. Giampaolo Tabarrini (with consulting enologist Emiliano Falsini) has presented an exciting set of wines and is a rising star from Montefalco. It's well worth keeping an eye on this winery. Score - 93+. (Monica Larner, erobertparker.com, Aug. 2013)
