The Maipo valley has built a fine reputation for producing red wines of considerable balance, from Cabernet, Carmenère and of course Syrah. This Syrah, from Viña Chocalán, offers well-defined dark fruit and spice aromas and flavours with pronounced tannins on the finish. A great value, this has the stuffing to warrant some time in the cellar, but can be enjoyed tonight with grilled steaks or hearty beef stews. (VINTAGES panel, March 2014)
