Berry Bros. & Rudd
The King's Ginger Liqueur
This liqueur was originally commissioned in 1903 by the Royal Physician to stimulate and revivify His Majesty King Edward VII when he was exposed to the elements on morning rides in his new horseless carriage. King Edward's greatest passions were fine wining and dining, the very best cigars and the company of beautiful ladies. It's made in the Netherlands by Berry Bros. & Rudd, by macerating ginger root in a high strength spirit and adding lemon oil for an uplifting fresh citrus note. Strong (41 per cent alcohol) and sweet, but not too, it's full of spicy ginger flavours enhanced by lemon peel elements. If you like candied ginger, you'll love this. Great paired with chocolate or added to whisky, mulled wine or hot apple cider for a lovely winter warmer. Score - 91. (Margaret Swaine, winealign.com, Feb. 2013)
